01 — The wager

Six clauses.
No clause
seven.

The entire commercial relationship, written out in public. Every line below appears verbatim in the contract, in the same order, in the same words.

01

The award, or nothing

If the website we design and build for you does not receive a recognised international design award within twelve months of public launch, our design fee is cancelled in full. Not discounted. Not credited against future work. Cancelled.

02

Which awards count

Awwwards (Site of the Day, Honourable Mention or higher), CSS Design Awards, Orpetron, WebDesignAwards.io, The FWA, Webby Awards, D&AD, or a jury of equivalent standing agreed in writing before we start. The list is fixed at kick-off so nobody moves the goalposts — including us.

03

We pay the entry fees

Submissions, entry fees and the writing of the entries are ours to handle and ours to fund. You are never asked to pay for the privilege of being judged. We submit to a minimum of four juries and publish every result, win or lose.

04

What you pay if we lose

Third-party costs only — licences, fonts, hosting, photography, anything with someone else's invoice attached, all of it disclosed and capped before work begins. Our own fee disappears. You keep the site, the source files and the full commercial licence regardless.

05

What we need from you

Two decision-makers, maximum. Written feedback within five working days. Content and access delivered on the dates agreed. If the process is run by committee or stalls for a month, the guarantee lapses — because at that point it is no longer our design being judged.

06

Nothing is hidden

The terms are on this page rather than in an appendix, because a guarantee written to be difficult to find is not a guarantee. Every clause above appears verbatim in the contract. There is no clause seven.

Appendix A

Who
judges

Fixed at kick-off. A win at any one of these cancels the clause. We submit to at least four, at our cost, and publish every verdict.

Appendix B — The obvious objections

So you just chase trophies instead of results?

No. The award is a proxy for an outside opinion, not the goal. We still design for the commercial job the site has to do — the guarantee simply means we cannot quietly ship something forgettable and invoice you anyway. If the work is good enough to be recognised by strangers, it is almost never bad for the business.

What stops you entering an obscure award nobody respects?

The eligible list is agreed in writing before a single pixel is drawn, and it only contains juries with published criteria and a rejection rate. We cannot add one later, and neither can you. Clause two exists precisely so nobody can move the goalposts once the result is uncomfortable.

Isn't your fee just inflated to cover the risk?

It is priced above a commodity build and below a network agency of the same calibre, and we will show you the comparison openly. You are not paying a premium for the guarantee; you are paying for a studio that takes three projects a month because each one has to win.

What if we love it and it still loses?

Then you have a website you love, full ownership of everything, and no invoice from us. That is the deal exactly as written. We absorb the loss and publish it on the ledger, because a record that only shows wins is not a record.

What if we want changes that we know will hurt the work?

We will tell you plainly, in writing, at the moment it happens. You can overrule us — it is your site. But if the change is material to the design, the guarantee lapses on that project, because at that point the thing being judged is no longer the thing we designed.
